Due to the wealth and the cultural tendencies of the Popes, cardinals, bankers, diplomats and intellectuals of the 16th century, Renaissance Art developed rapidly in Rome: new villas, palaces, churches, chapels and streets were constructed and many famous artists came from all over Italy to work in Rome. The new interest in archaeology alighted particularly on Ancient masterpieces, which were restored and set up in private collections. The most famous example belongs to the group of statues in the Laocoön, which was found in 1506 and erected by Julius II in the courtyard of the Belvedere Palace. Together with other famous, ancient statues and the frescoes of Raphael and Michelangelo, it is among the most admired art works of the Vatican Museums today.

This was a very interesting trip to Rome, with a very nice and informative guide. It included the skip the line access and the Colosseum, the Paletina hill and the Vatican. It was a great experience.
